A place for ideas to become stories

Creative Writing welcomes children who love to imagine, tell stories, draw worlds, play with words, or grow more comfortable expressing ideas. Each child can enter through conversation, pictures, shared writing, or increasingly independent work.

What children explore

  • Generating and organizing ideas
  • Characters, settings, sequence, conflict, and resolution
  • Descriptive language, vocabulary, dialogue, and voice
  • Drafting, revisiting, illustrating, and sharing original work

A typical experience

An inviting prompt opens the door, followed by conversation, idea mapping, drawing, storytelling, or writing. Guidance is matched to the learner so mechanics support expression instead of stopping it. Children may close by reading, retelling, illustrating, or reflecting on their creation.

Different ways to be a writer

Younger children may dictate stories, arrange picture sequences, draw, and experiment with marks or labels. Older learners can develop longer pieces, make purposeful language choices, and revise for clarity and effect.

Current meeting times, format, and availability are shared directly with families.
